Do you have a quilt or coverlet made before 1950? Westside Historical Society is seeking information about old handmade quilts, preferably made in the Chesapeake Bay region. On November 5, at the Antiques and Art Appraisals Show in Mardela Springs, representatives from the Historical Society and Dr. Cindy Byrd will be offering information and advice on how to care for these special treasures from an earlier lifestyle.
In addition, the WHS will be continuing to gather information about these special textiles as part of their Quilt Documentation Project, begun in 2015. Owners of such items are invited to bring them in for photographing, measuring, and collection of any information about them. The information will be made part of a database that not only will preserve these beautiful parts of our heritage, but will eventually be available to scholars and researchers. There is no charge for this service. The Show on Nov. 5 will be held in the Mardela Springs Fire Hall, opens at 9:30 and closes at 3:30; there is no admission to the Show.
