Governor Larry Hogan Announces Rescheduling

Preakness will be in October 2020

On May 16, 2020, Governor Larry Hogan made this announcement on his Facebook Page:

Today I was pleased to announce that the 145th Preakness Stakes will be held at Pimlico Race Course on October 3rd. This is wonderful news for the State of Maryland and our historic racing industry.

Prior to this exciting announcement, NBC reaired the 140th Preakness Stakes. During my first year as Maryland’s governor, I had the privilege of presenting the Woodlawn Trophy to American Pharaoh, who would go on to win the Triple Crown. As I walked across the track in ankle-deep water, I apologized to American Pharaoh’s owner, Ahmed Zayat, for the sudden rainstorm that had blown in just before the race. He replied, “Not at all— my horse loves to swim!”
