Brian Gonzalez, Garrett Cleavinger and Christian Turnipseed steadied the way for the Shorebirds, limiting Greensboro to one run on five hits in a 3-1 win Tuesday night to even the series. Gonzalez earned his first win of the season, while Cleavinger earned his first hold and Turnipseed collected his fourth save.

Delmarva built a 3-0 lead on an Alex Murphy RBI single in the first inning, a Yermin Mercedes RBI double in the third inning, and a passed ball with the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

The only trouble Gonzalez got into in five frames came in the fifth, when the Grasshoppers put runners at the corners with nobody out. But Gonzalez allowed only one run to score when Anfernee Seymour bounced out to third base.

Once Gonzalez left the game, Cleavinger and Turnipseed shut down all hope for Greensboro. The two pitched to just one batter over the minimum in four combined innings, striking out six along the way.

The Shorebirds take the field tomorrow night in the series finale with Greensboro at 7:05 pm on Fox Sports AM 960.
